The XyloFun project aims to extend the benefits of instrumental music education to the most under-resourced schools in South Africa
XyloFun is a high quality, low cost instrument and a method that enables students to play exciting, creative music from the word go!
Our training courses give teachers the instruments and the skills they need to teach the music curriculum effectively - regardless of previous experience
The XyloFun project raises funding to supply high quality instruments and training to schools in South Africa that do not have resources for music education.
Within minutes of starting the very first session, even those who have never played a musical instrument before find themselves performing in a band, producing a song that they know and love.
It is based on a specially designed 15 note Alto xylophone made with a special wood from a sustainable source that is very strong and has a beautiful ring.
The keys of the xylophones are marked with three colours – red, blue and green – which correspond to the three chords used in many popular songs – C F and G – and are the basis for an accessible notation system.
